The title says it all. I went to a local department store where I found a floor display Artisan KSM150 in Imperial Gray that had been discontinued. It was marked on clearance; original price was 349.99, but the clearance price was 75.99. They took off an extra 20% because it was a floor display unit (it had all attachments and accessories including product guide, etc) which brought the price to 60. I had a coupon good for 30% off any purchase when using the customer loyalty card, which dropped the price to 42. By using another (stackable) 15% coupon the price plummeted to $35.70. Add tax and the price was 38.91, or roughly 11% of the original price.

Then I sent in for a $40 mail-in-rebate which arrived after about 7 weeks. All in all, KitchenAid paid me $1.09 to buy what amounted to a free mixer.

That's not counting the $12 check I got for opting out of the food-and-wine magazine subscription that also came as a part of the offer.

Now I just have to figure out what to do with the sucker. It takes up so much counter space!

I never heard such an AMAZING story in my life, jerbee02!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can KA send someone over to my house now to pick me up off the floor???? I LOVE LOVE LOVE a good bargain and I absolutley ADORE coupons, but your tale puts anything I have ever accomplished to SHAME!!! All I can say is a great big loud WOW!!! I am in AWE!!! There should be a plaque made in your honor! Now you go back to that kitchen and you make room for that FREE mixer of yours and enjoy it! Wait- BETTER than free mixer, I stand corrected- you got MONEY BACK for taking it out of the store!!!! When I get a good deal on something I do enjoy that item so much more, knowing I saved money and got something I wanted at a bargain price- if I were in your shoes they wouldn't be able to wipe the smile off my face every time I walked by that mixer! GOOD FOR YOU!!!!!!!! Now you can let us know all the goodies you are mixing up with your new baby!!! What color is it, by the way (not that that matters! )?????

jerbee02, I hate your guts, but that's beside the point. You said you need to figure out what to do with the sucker because it takes up so much counter space. Well, turn it on and make something. Bread would be good. Don't get discouraged if you fail the first time or two. I think (dangerous thing to do!) that some recipes work better in some parts of the country. Or world.

Cooking or baking in Denver or Dallas or St. Louis is WAY different than in Evansville Indiana. The altitude is different. The water is different. The humidity is different. Electric stoves are different than gas. Ain't we havin' fun now? We're all scientists!

Have a blast with that mixer! What did you name it? You know that's required....right? Dazz and Devo/Jacko/Black Betty wish you good food!

Luvs,
Jo

I also purchased the same mixer in the Imperial Gray on ebay for my son in Texas. He says he will never use it, but I will when I'm visiting him, and hopefully he will start to cook more and make use of it. They really simplify your kitchen work, making it a joy.

I didn't get mine for free, but I did only pay $155 and it is also new in the box.

You know, I doubt if my son ever uses it. But I will when I'm visiting him. I cook and freeze for him. He said he's not putting it on his counter top, and it's in a cabinet tilted because it's too big. Well, it's not like he didn't tell me he didn't want it.

Oh, MissFidget, I don't think it's a good idea for a KA mixer to be stored tilted like that- it's not good for it. I know from all these posts on here that the mixer is supposed to remain upright- not sure exactly WHY but I know I read that here a few times. Tell your son to get the mixer upright!!!! Hey, he should use it and he will fall in love!!! And then it will be on the counter where it belongs!

Yeah, storing it tilted can cause some of the oil to leak out. It may make a big mess in the cabinet. Better to store it upright, like cooknup said.

Thanks everyone. I sent my son your replies about keeping the KA mixer upright, and he took care of it right away.

WHEW!!!!! We're so relieved!!!! The mixer is now safe again!!! Did he use it while he was adjusting how it was stored???? You have to go for a visit, MissFidget, and show him all the time he can save using that mixer!!! He doesn't realize what he has yet.

No, he may never use it. I may go down in January and make many twice baked potatoes and freeze them.

Thanks.
