How do you keep the flour that you use most often. Do you have some thing special for it. I keep my all purpose flour, the one I use most often in a Hungarian hand thrown sauerkraut pot, it does have a place , draining hole in the bottom that I have a cork in. It was given to me by a dear friend many many years ago. It holds 10 kg comfortably. plain pastry flour is in a Stainlees steel container smaller only holds about 1 kg and another small stainless steel container for my hard wheat berries, also about 1 kg. qahtan

I have some crocks that I sometimes use...
I got them for $7.99 at Goodwill, and they're Sango's...

| I keep all my flours, my sugars and even rice in large Tupperware containers. I store the rice and flours I don't use that often right in the Tupperware in the freezer. |

Yeah, Vernon, I think it lasts forever in the freezer! I also make sure to keep my yeast in there too, it lasts WAY beyond the expiration date on the package- take it from me, I've used OLD OLD yeast from my freezer with no problems in the end result! |

I too use Tupperware for my flour (wheat, ap, bread), sugar, sweet n low, tea, coffee, brown sugar, powder sugar. My german mother in law would like what you use though.

| Cooksnup, I was not aware that you could keep yeast in the freezer. Are these the packages of dry yeast, or the cakes? Thanks for the great idea! |

| Dry yeast, MissFidget, and it will literally last forever in there! I just pop the entire package in the freezer- I don't even pour it into another container. By the way, did you ever get your son to store his mixer upright instead of tilted???????? Also- did you ever get him TO USE the mixer??????????? |

I purchase my KA white and wheat flour in 50 lb. bags and store in 5 gal. white buckets that I purchase from my cake and candy supply store. Frosting comes in the buckets and the store cleans and re-sales the empty buckets for under $2.00. The lids close real tight. In the summer I store my flour in the freezer in gallon size freezer bags which I double bag. Southern1 |

Cooknupastorm-Yes, my son said he stored his mixer upright. No, he hasn't used it and I think I have to get off his back about it. However, I am concerned about the oil leaking because it won't be used except when I'm there (not often.) On QVC there were some reviews that indicated that the oil sometimes leaks.
Thanks for the information about freezing the yeast.

MissFidget...the oil can leak out on occasion if the mixer isn't used very often (as in your son's case), but if any should happen to leak out, if it's just a tiny drip, don't worry. Tell him to run the mixer on speed 10 for 2 minutes, with the bowl--but no beaters--attached. Then wipe up any excess oil and that should stop the leaking. Or, better yet, if you just use it every time you go to see him, it shouldn't leak in the first place

KitchenaidQuinn Thank you for the information regarding the oil leaking. I believe I will be there in January, and will certainly use it then.
