Nostalgia, frustration with the Forum and nervous energy waiting for surgery have driven me back to my roots.

I was asked which mixer was my favorite for cakes and the answer would be any Sunbeam with Bowl-fit Beaters.

I grew up with a model 10, wished it was as attractive as the model 11, I committed full on envy and desire to have a model 12, but it was the model MM siren's song that ensnared me. The sleek lines, the contrasting escutchen and the desert look of the Sandalwood with brown accents that was my first and I used it for 35 years.

My ingredients get just as frustrated as you do waiting for me to get to the point.

In the medel 10, Apple Dadpple Cake, in the 11, Coconut Creme Cake, Red Velvet in the model 12 and Mrs Kings Irresistables in the MM.

I worked for Sunbeam the year after they introduced the MM series. Customer after customer berated me behind the counter for Sunbeam making plastic junk. "Why if they'd had any idea we were going to make cheap plastic junk made in Japan they's have bought the previous model while they were still available!" BLAH BLAH BLAH
Hail the mighty MM. They were the first mainline Sunbeam in the line up with a permanently lubricated motor. The prototypes had been quietly tested on the Vista series and the refinements made for the MM.

The lickable Bowl-Fit beaters that made Sunbeam famous.

The fruits of the labors and my special buffet on the pedastal.

The kitchen is closed and no mess thanks to my start slow, ease up the speed, bowl scraping banished and use the utensils over and over before washing.

So what's my point in regaling you with Sunbeams on the KitchenAid forum? How many times have we heard the whiners cry out, "they're all junk since Whirlpool bought them." "they're all plastic now." "The old ones were so much better."
Guess what. Time does not stand still for any of us. The same blah blah blah was heard at Sunbeam and 75 year old machines as well as the 40 year old are still whizzing away. Aside from someone like me who source and repair the old relics they don't exist anymore. My KitchenAids have all been bullet proof. They stand steadfastly at my side waiting to pull me out of every food related abyss. They aren't at all like they used to be. They are better in so many ways.

Mixfinder!!!!! Great to see you back and loved all your wonderful pictures. Where the heck do you keep all those mixers? I have to hide all the baking stuff I buy, but mixers would be kinda obvious :)

All your sweets look so good, as always. I got a chuckle out of your platter of prescriptions. Bet you thought we wouldn't notice hahaha. Those are some big cookies too - - I like big cookies, this way I can have juuuuuust one and feel OK about it.

Hope you're feeling better cuz we are all sending positive thoughts your way.

Hmmmpffff! Yeah right. Mixfinder the Magnificent has a major health crisis, runs off for major surgery, and next thing ya know he's got a whole stable full of perfectly groomed vintage mixers on his counter wound up and truckin'. He's a fraud, I tell ya, a FRAUD! He has a house full of elves and servants and photographers working for him. And he stole all those pill bottles from the old ladies at the nursing home when his elves delivered the cookies.

LUV YA MIXIE!!!!! SO GLAD YOU'RE BETTER!!!!!

Jo, you know me too well. Being quiet is the hardest job I have. I never really work hard but I never sit down or stop. It was two months of angony, one week of suspected involvement with the pancreas which scared the wadding out of me. I put all the nervous energy into projects large and small to keep my mind occupied. The One, who is my distraction was in China for the last two weeks of my waiting. The surgery is a complete and total success, I have a glorious black and blue abdoman and now a touch of the flu, but I shall prevail and come back stronger and lighter (35pounds). Extra pounds from KitchenAid projects, testing and taking pictures and training myself to eat one whole pie as a serving!

Kelly, you're just as evil as usual. I love ya just as much for your humor, but I hate you because you make all those lovely sweet things I'd never think of eating. And you stole pill bottles from those poor ladies at the nursing home. Shame on you.

I really hope there are no newbies here who think I'm serious.

Luvs,
Jo

Mixfinder, soooo glad you are back and well. I also loved your pictures. I get fat just looking at those goodies.
I was thinking about the complaints for some people that you posted about regarding the plastic parts in mixers and appliances. I have seen the questions posted about the plastic gears etc. also. These days, many "people" are even having plastic put in their inners and also plastic materials are even used machinery in the aerospace program in place of metal.
It is said that plastic gears are less noisy than the metal ones. I have a creaky knee that might be better with a new plastic one to keep it less noisy. Ah plastic..it's a sign of the times.

Is anybody here old enough to remember the days before paper towels, Ziploc bags, and disposable diapers? And computers and the internet? Metal degrades faster than plastic. Put it in a landfill and check it in a hundred years.

I am very thankful just to have a KA mixer!!!!

I'm just more careful when I flog it, and that makes a difference...

Mixedupjo,

Sure, I remember waxpaper and how to fold it to keep a sandwich from falling apart and drying out in a paper lunch sack. Also remember cloth diapers of 100% cotton, but I'm unsure about the time before paper towels... that one is lost on me.

Mixfinder,
hope you are better, and survived the nervous fit!

Well to show my age..I raised 6 kids..I never used used a Pamper or throw away diapers. I don't even remember if they were invented then. I have another new granbaby expected in Feb. (this will be #29) and I know that none of the kids have ever used a cloth diaper on their babes. They keep the disposable diaper companies in business.
Now, I live with my little 16 yo dog Misha and my Manx..but we do use paper towels a lot.
