Sometimes, food particles can harden on the beater shaft or in the spring on the shaft, making the beater difficult to remove.
To remove the beater, we recommend a hot towel compressed (a wet, warm wash cloth) around the beater shaft for 10 minutes. Re-warm it after ten minutes and let it sit for another 1-2 more minutes on the Mixer (to re-warm the aluminum, causing it to expand) and then wiggle the beater off. Once the beater comes off, clean it VERY well. Remember to pull it off as straight as possible, alignment is important.
This procedure should soften up whatever has hardened in the beater shaft.
KitchenAid suggests that the beater be removed from the mixer shaft after every use and that the beater shaft should be wiped down with a damp cloth after use.
